Alaska, the Greatland, where the majesty and speldor of the surreal mountain ranges is interrupted by pristine boreal forest , countless lakes and rivers. Alaska truly is the "Last Frontier." It is often said, "Alaska is what America was." Alaska is certainly a land of dreams and a land where dreams come true. Whether you are trekking to Alaska for the first time, in search of trophy sized fish or seeking to experience the unbelievable scenery that the grand state has to offer, Alaska never grows old.

Alaska has so much to offer, it is literally impossible to contain it all in one web page or even book. From rain forests to deserts; from floating bogs to sand dunes; from uninhabitated and rarely visted coasts to the ammenities of large cities; from ancient, pre-historic sites to modern conveniences; Alaska has it all.

Alaska has more coastline than the entire lower-48 states combined! Many people travelling to Alaska will choose to see the great state via cruise ship. Voyaging through the Inside Passage, visitors will experience Alaskan Gold Rush history, and indescribable wilderness. Whales, orca, stellar sea lions, seals, sea otters and a plethora of bird species are viewed in their natural states.

For those who would like to get to their destination without delay, you can choose any major airline for a flight into one of the busiest international airports in the world! Steven's Anchorage International Airport is the hub for your Alaska adventures. There are many commuter airlines and air charter operators that call Anchorage their base. These business can either shuttle you to smaller regional airports or off to the remotest of Alaska's wilderness.

Many experienced Alaskan visitors will fly into Anchorage and rent a vehicle or RV to explore the state. The freedom from schedules and itineraries takes all of the stress out of your vacation. From Anchorage you can travel north toward Denali, and continue on to Fairbanks, or go east toward coastal communities of Prince William Sound, or south to Alaska's Kenai Peninsula.

The world renown Kenai Peninsula is refered to as the "recreation capital of Alaska." This is home of the Kenai River, a very unique body of water that produces multiple runs of a variety of salmon species. Beginning in May of each year, the salmon begin their annual migration to the spawning beds of the Kenai River drainage. This starts out with the first run of king salmon, closely associated with the red salmon destined for the Russian River. July will start the second (and larger) run of king salmon and likewise the larger run of red salmon. Late July and early August, on even number years, the pink salmon will return to the Kenai in great masses. Finally, starting in late July, the silver salmon will begin their return.

The vitality of the Kenai river is dependant on the salmon returns. The spawning salmon is an essential food source for many species of fish and wildlife that call the Kenai Peninsula home. From the birds of prey to the scavengers, from the bears to the weasels and from the rainbow trout to the salmon themselves... all are dependent on the spawning salmon for survival.
